Maidaan producer Boney Kapoor: Syed Abdul Rahim was a nationalist

Producer Boney Kapoor opened up recently on his upcoming film, Maidaan, and said that Syed Abdul Rahim was a nationalist. The film chronicles the life of Rahim, who was the Indian Football team coach and led the team to victory at the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Priyamani, and Gajrao Rao.

Speaking about Rahim recently, Boney said, “Rahim Saab was a superman. He single-handedly created the entire team. He was such a nationalist, he wanted to win gold for India and eventually, he did despite so many handicaps. And this film will change the way people perceive Indian football for sure.”

Maidaan is releasing on April 10. Earlier, the film’s final trailer was released, which shows Ajay as Syed Abdul Rahim facing various challenges, especially from Gajraj’s character, who seems to be part of the bureaucracy. Rahim's decision to handpick players from across the country for the team is met with some criticism from others.

Maidaan is produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Akash Chawla. AR Rahman has composed music for the film with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir Shukla. It is set to clash with the Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan at the box office.
