Filmmaker-producer Karan Johar recently revealed that Student of the Year 3 will be a web series which will be directed by Reema Maya, the director behind the short film Nocturnal Burger.
As per a Times of India report, at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh, Karan said that Maya’s digital version for the film will be in “her way and definitely not mine.”
“Because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series,” he said.
Reema is an award-winning writer-director and co-founder of Catnip production house and is known for her independent filmmaking. Her short films, including Counterfeit Kunkoo, have been well-received at film festivals like Sundance. Her recent work, Nocturnal Burger, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023. She has also directed videos for brands like Netflix, Red Bull, and boAt.
Earlier, reports were suggesting that Karan plans to cast Shanaya Kapoor in the film franchise turned into a web series. Shanaya was supposed to debut with Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak, alongside Laksh Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada, but the film has reportedly been put on hold.
