Kajol on 25 years of Dushman: One of the scariest films I have ever said yes to

The 1998 film Dushman starring Kajol, Sanjay Dutt and Ashutosh Rana completed 25 years on Monday. Remembering the film, Kajol took to her social media on the occasion and stated that Dushman was the scariest film she was part of.

The film is known for Ashutosh Rana’s chilling performance as the rapist taxi driver Gokul Pandit. Dushman was the directorial debut of screenwriter Tanuja Chandra with a screenplay by Mahesh Bhatt and story by Sachin Bhowmick. The dialogues were penned by Girish Dhamija.

Sharing a clip of certain scenes from the film, Kajol wrote, “ #25years to Dushman. One of the scariest films I have ever said yes to or even watched for that matter. #AshutoshRana scared the crap out of me on screen and I’m sure out of all of you guys as well.”

The actor also thanked Pooja Bhatt and director Tanuja Chandra for easing her into the film. “And a big thanks till today to #PoojaBhatt and #TanujaChandra for making me so comfortable with such an uncomfortable topic. It is still such an uncomfortable film for me to watch!”

Dushman starred Kajol in a double-role. She played twins Sonia and Naina Sehgal. While Sonia is boisterous and extroverted, Naina is shy and reserved. When Ashutosh Rana’s Gokul Pandit, a taxi driver, rapes and kills Sonia and is acquitted by the court, Naina, with the help of Sanjay Dutt, who plays a blind army veteran, seeks revenge against Gokul.

Ashutosh won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain in 1999 for the film.
