Amid the ongoing debate about changing India’s name to Bharat, the name of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film has been changed. As per reports, the film was initially called Capsule Gill which was later changed to The Great Indian Rescue. Now, finally, the makers are going with the name Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.

The film has been directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who worked with Akshay before in Rustom (2016). Mission Raniganj also stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead. It is slated to release on October 6.

The film is based on the life of engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who, in 1989, saved lives of 65 miners stuck in Mahabir colliery in West Bengal’s Raniganj. Gill devised a special steel capsule using which the miners were rescued. He was awarded with the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak for his bravery by the then President of India, Ramaswamy Venkataraman, in 1991.

Sharing the announcement on X, Akshay wrote, “In 1989, one man achieved the impossible! Watch the story of Bharat’s true hero with #MissionRaniganj in cinemas on 6th October. Teaser out tomorrow!”

The 45-second announcement video shows Akshay in a red turban and glasses as miners are seen crying for help.

The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani and Ajay Kapoor.
