Sam Bahadur teaser: Vicky Kaushal’s war hero is patriotic sans politics

The teaser of Vicky Kaushal headliner biopic-drama Sam Bahadur was released by the makers on Friday. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP films. It also features Fatima Sana Shaikh in the role of late prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The teaser introduces us to Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war which led to the formation of Bangladesh. Vicky’s Sam tells a battalion that for a soldier nothing is above his uniform and his dignity. He proudly asserts that politics doesn’t interest him and that the Army is his life. When Fatima’s Indira Gandhi says that soldiers have a duty to die for their country, he corrects her, “I beg your pardon ma’am, a soldier’s duty is to kill the enemy for their country.”

Sam Bahadur also stars Sanya Malhotra in the role of Sam Manekshaw’s wife Silloo. The film marks Meghna's second collaboration with Vicky after Raazi (2018) which starred Alia Bhatt in the lead.

Sam Mankeshaw was the first soldier in the Indian Army to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. He is credited for India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.

Bhavani Iyer has penned the film’s script along with Meghna's father, the celebrated writer and poet Gulzar and Shantanu Srivastava. With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Gulzar also serves as one of the lyricists in the film. Sam Bahadur is slated to release on December 1.
