Bhumi Pednekar's recently released film Thank You For Coming has been receiving positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Directed by Karan Boolani, the film shows Bhumi Pednekar as Kanika, a woman in her 30s, who has not experienced real sexual pleasure in her life.
Speaking on the film, Ektaa Kapoor, who produced the film, took to her X handle and wrote, "Thank You For Coming is a little mad movie made by mad crazy partner Rhea that doesn’t smash patriarchy but tickles with feathers under its nose so all the bulls hit gets sneezed out!! There is only mad love for the film or unpalpable anger!!!"
She revealed how she was trolled for ruining culture because the film 'promotes' self-pleasure and also shared how she was applauded by Indian and International press.
"Thank You For Coming raises a huge question how comfortable r we with women choosing themselves and who decides how much 'freedom' is 'allowed' (d irony of this statement)," she further added.
In an interaction on X, Ektaa also responded to trolls on the micro-blogging site. When someone wrote to her, “Pls stop making adult movies,” Ektaa replied, “No I’m an adult so I will make adult movies.” One more wrote to her, “Shame on you.” She wrote back, “Ok shame on me.”
When a Twitter user also blamed her and Karan Johar for allegedly ruining the nation's culture with their film and shows, the filmmaker replied, "Hmmmmmm!"
Thank You For Coming was an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023. Thank You For Coming also stars Shehnaaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi in prominent roles.
