Karan Johar reveals how Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan did not want Alia Bhatt to be cast in Student of the Year

After actors Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Ranveer Singh, and others, actors Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra are set to appear in the reality talk show Koffee with Karan, on Thursday.

With the host being director Karan Johar, who introduced the actors, along with Alia Bhatt, in the Student of the Year, the filmmaker revealed how both Varun and Siddharth did not want him to cast Alia in the film.

Talking about it, Karan Johar said, “I still remember with Alia, the first time that she walked in, how both of you actually sent me messages saying you can't cast her. One of you said she is too young. I am saying it started like this but when we shot with her, 3 months post that for a photo shoot, I remember she stood quiet and didn't look at either of you. Either she was conscious or shy, because you all already knew me. She didn't know me at all, we did the photo shoot and right after that, I mean I knew at the first shot.”

While Siddharth denied sending such messages, Karan reiterated how they did not him to rope in Alia for the role of Shanaya and kept sending me images of other girls. “But see, that was what was wonderful that she was the underdog within the underdogs here already, then she emerged,” Sidharth Malhotra said.

The filmmaker also recalled an instance during the shoot when Varun Dhawan got his nose broken in an action sequence; however, Varun Dhawan got his nose broken in an action sequence.

Talking about it, Karan Johar said, “I remember when Sid nearly broke your nose in the fight sequence of Student of the Year. Your nose was bleeding, I remember Alia started screaming and I was like why is she overacting so much. She was screaming loudly, when I went to the hospital, Varun’s family were only worried about Sid. They were like yeh Varun ki galti hogi, yeh extra enthu hogaya hoga. They were like, is Sid okay? Tell him not to worry.”
