Gadar: Ek Prem Katha to start streaming on OTT from this date

After being re-released in theatres ahead of the release of its sequel, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), will also be placed on ZEE5. The film will start streaming on the OTT platform from today (June 16).

Set against the backdrop of partition in 1947, the film chronicles the journey of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a Sikh truck driver who falls in love with a Muslim girl – Sakeena (Ameesha Patel) belonging to an aristocratic family. The two eventually get married and have a son but their happiness is short-lived. Sakeena's father enters their life and hatches a plan to separate the two. He forces her to stay in Pakistan and separates her from her family. Sakeena moves to Pakistan while Tara struggles to reunite with his love.

Directed by Anil Sharma, the film was a blockbuster when it was released in 2001. The teaser of its sequel Gadar 2: The Katha Continues was also unveiled recently. The sequel is set in 1971, thirty years after the happenings of Gadar around the Crush India movement that was being held in Pakistan.

Gadar 2 will be released in theatres on August 11.
