Kajol: DDLJ should not be remade, magic can be only created once

Actor Kajol, who has been part of Yash Raj Films’ biggest family entertainers Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), said that she doesn’t want these films to be remade as “magic can be only created once.”

In an interview with News18, Kajol said, “My personal opinion is that I don’t think that films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge should be remade. I feel the same for K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham; 2001). I feel that magic can only be created once. If you recreate it, it just fizzles out and it won’t have the same feel.”

She also said that even if remakes are made, they will be constantly compared to the originals and will leave the audience disappointed. “You’ll always be disappointed regardless of how well it is portrayed and done. Magic has a feel to it. Films give you that feel. You feel something when you watch them for the first time and nothing replicates that feeling,” she added.

Kajol was last seen in Salaam Venky with Vishal Jethwa. The film also had a special appearance by Aamir Khan. The film follows a mother, Sujata (Kajol), whose teenage son is diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). It follows Sujata as she tries to facilitate his last wish for euthanasia. It is based on the biographical book The Last Hurrah by Shrikant Murthy.
