The trailer of Rani Mukerji’s upcoming film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway was unveiled today. Directed by Ashima Chibber (Mere Dad Ki Maruti, 2013), the film is based on the real-life story of an Indian-origin couple living in Norway whose children were taken by the Norwegian welfare services in 2011.
The film also stars Anirban Bhattacharya, Jim Sarbh and Neena Gupta.
The trailer introduces us to Debika Chatterjee (Rani), her husband and two young kids, Shubh and Suchi. The family, originally from Kolkata, are living in Norway. It is all happy and content till the Norwegian authorities take away their children, contending that the family is unfit to take care of them. The authorities also claim that Mrs Chatterjee has “an unstable mind” and is not suited to provide for her children. The trailer also reveals that the welfare services are apparently running a scam where they make money by putting children in foster care. Now it is a fight of a lone woman against the system to retrieve her children.
