Legendary Bollywood singer Bhupinder Singh passed away in Mumbai on Monday. He was 82. 

Known for his distinctive, lushly autumnal voice, Bhupinder Singh started his career on radio, before debuting with Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga with Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey. The song was featured in the 1964 Chetan Anand film, Haqeeqat

Some of Bhupinder Singh's timeless songs include Beeti Na Beetai Raina ( Parichay, 1972), Dil Dhoondta Hai (Mausum, 1975), Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein (Gharaonda, 1976), Naam Gum Jayega (with Lata Mangeshkar in Kinara (1977), Dukki Pe Dukki Ho (Satte Pe Satta, 1982) and more. He had also voiced the Hindi song Kaise Kahoon in the 1981 Tamil film, Nandu. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Bhupinder Singh was equally renowned as a guitarist and Ghazal singer and composer. 

He passed away in a Mumbai hospital due to suspected colon cancer and Covid-19 complications, reports stated. He is survived by his wife, singer Mitali Singh, and their son Nihal Singh. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the singer's loss by tweeting,"Bhupender Singh ji's works struck a chord with people."
