Anurag Kashyap questions Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘research’, ‘prove I am wrong’ replies The Kashmir Files director

The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri had recently attacked filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Twitter. Calling him “Bollywood’s one and only Milord”, Vivek had posted a screenshot of Anurag’s statement on the impact of films like Kantara and Pushpa in the industry, as quoted by a publication. 

“I totally totally totally disagree with the views of Bollywood’s one & only Milord. Do you agree?" Vivek had tweeted. He was informed by twitterati that the quote was taken out of context by the media house. “First see the interview... he is misquoted here actually,” one of them wrote to Vivek.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director then tweeted his rebuttal to Vivek. Anurag wrote, “Sir aapki galti nahin hai, aap ki filmon ki research bhi aisi hi hoti hai jaise aapki mere conversations pe tweet hai. Aapka aur aapki media ka bhi same haal hai. Koi nahin next time thoda serious research kar lena (Sir, it isn't your fault, your film researches are done as same as your tweets on my conversations. You and your media are the same. No worries, do some serious research the next time).”

Reacting to this, Vivek said, “Bholenath, aap lage haath sabit kar hi do ki #TheKashmirFiles ka 4 saal ka research sab jhooth tha. Girija Tikoo, BK Ganju, Airforce killing, Nadimarg sab jhooth tha. 700 Panditon ke video sab jhooth the. Hindu kabhi mare hi nahin. Aap prove kar do, DOBAARA aisi galti nahin hogi. (Please prove that the four-year research for The Kashmir Files was all a lie. Girija Tikoo, BK Ganju, Airforce killing, Nadimarg, all of it was a lie. The videos of 700 Kashmiri Pandits were all a lie. Hindus never died. You prove it and this mistake will never be made again)”

Anurag had said in an interview that films like Sairat “destroyed” Marathi cinema as everybody wanted to emulate the film and mint money. Anurag told Galatta Plus, "Films like Kantara and Pushpa give you courage to go out and tell your stories. But KGF 2, however big the success, when you try and emulate that and set a project up, that’s when you start heading towards disaster. That’s the bandwagon that Bollywood destroyed itself on. You have to find films that give you courage.”

On the work front, Vivek has started shoot for his next The Vaccine War. Anurag’s last directorial was the sci-fi thriller Dobaara starring Taapsee Pannu. His next, Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat, starring Alaya F and debutant Karan Mehta, was recently screened at the Marrakech Film Festival.
