An Action Hero’s box office has a marginal rise on Day 2
Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat’s An Action Hero is having a dismal weekend. Despite the positive reviews, the film opened to a meagre Rs 1.31 crore. The box office numbers increased marginally to Rs 2.16 crore on Saturday, as per film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
“#AnActionHero gets the much-needed boost/jump on Day 2, but the 2-day total remains extremely low, despite favourable word of mouth… Mass circuits are weak… Needs miraculous turnaround on Day 3… Fri 1.31 cr, Sat 2.16 cr. Total: ₹ 3.47 cr. #India biz,” he tweeted.
If the film, which is made on a budget of approximately Rs 45 crore, fails to pick up pace on Sunday, it would be the fifth dud for Ayushmann at the box office after Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek and Doctor G.
Drishyam 2 is also eating into the business of both An Action Hero and Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon starrer Bhediya. The film, featuring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Akshaye Khanna, has already collected Rs 170 crore and is aiming for the Rs 200 crore club.
An Action Hero is about an action superstar (Ayushmann Khurrana) who gets into a predicament after accidentally killing the brother of a Haryana politician. He is then chased by the politician (Jaideep Ahlawat) amidst a media circus over the entire controversy. The film is a satirical take on the film industry, action films and the media.
