83, Kapil Dev's biopic landed in hot water after a criminal complaint was filed against all producers of the film including Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The two actors co-produced the project and also starred in it.
According to a report in India Today, a case has been registered against the makers of the sports drama following allegations of cheating. A financier based in the United Arab Emirates filed a complaint at the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai. The financier alleged that the makers of 83 -- Vibri Media -- promised him good returns after they invested approximately Rs 16 crores.
The complainant further explained that their money was used up in different agreements that involved Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Deepika Padukone among others. The money was also allegedly used in the production of 83. No consent was received from the financier, however, and this led to the complaint against the producers of the Ranveer Singh-starrer.
Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee stated that his client, FZE, filed a criminal complaint on the grounds of cheating and criminal conspiracy. 83 is directed by Kabir Khan and stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev. Deepika Padukone will appear in an extended cameo as Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia.
The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, and Ammy Virk in important roles. 83 is set to be released on December 24.
The recently-released trailer of the film impressed the film fraternity as much as it did the audience.
