The Matrix Resurrections trailer out; Neo and Trinity reunite for another adventure
Lana Wachowski returns to direct the fourth Matrix film and has co-written the screenplay with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon
The highly-anticipated trailer for science-fiction actioner The Matrix Resurrections has been released. The trailer, which is nearly three minutes long, begins with Thomas Anderson/Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) talking about the visions he has been having during a therapy session with a doctor played by Neil Patrick Harris.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of Neo reuniting with Carrie-Anne Moss's Trinity as they shake their hands but neither of them seems to remember their past during their brief rendezvous. The footage also offers ample throwbacks to the beloved original with the most noticeable one the combat sequence between Neo and Morpheus from the original.
In yet another echo, Neo is offered red and blue pills and he has to make the choice once again. New additions to the cast include Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.
Among the new entrants, Priyanka, whose character remains under wraps, makes a brief appearance in the trailer as she can be seen closing Lewis Carroll's classic Alice in Wonderland: Through the looking glass, a novel series that shares the 'rabbit hole' element with The Matrix films; the 'rabbit hole' has been addressed in the new film as well.
Furthermore, the trailer promises generous doses of action, although the film seems to have taken a different visual approach, letting go of the green colour palette the original trilogy was popular for.
Lana Wachowski returns to direct and has co-written the screenplay with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon. The cast also includes Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Eréndira Ibarra.
The Matrix: Resurrections is scheduled to release on December 22.
