Marvel Cinematic Universe fans across India are proving once again that not many fan bases worldwide can match them when it comes to pure devotion for the franchise. The box office performance of Avengers Endgame: Encore is proof that India has one of the world's most loyal MCU admirers. With the recent rerelease of Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2019 blockbuster, fans have been assembling in cinemas in large numbers to experience Marge Studios’ cinematic epic all over again, and the numbers don't lie.
According to data from Box Office Mojo, it has earned around $86 million in the opening weekend of its rerelease at the worldwide box office. Out of this Avengers Endgame: Encore box office collection, $26 million comes from the North American market and the rest of the amount from the rest of the world. Thus, it has grabbed the top position at the box office, registering the second biggest global opening for rereleased films.
India stands fifth on the list of the largest markets in the world for the Avengers: Endgame rerelease, contributing a gross collection of about $2.8 million or approximately 25 crore in the first weekend of its release. India ranks behind the USA ($26 million), China ($13.5 million), the United Kingdom ($5.4 million), and Mexico ($4.3 million) when it comes to estimated box office collections for the film.
With the rerelease of the film, fans across India, especially those in metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Cochin, have been making the most of the opportunity to experience some of MCU's most unforgettable moments once again on the big screen. Social media is full of clips of them hooting and cheering for moments such as Captain America's “Avengers, Assemble!” dialogue, Iron Man's ultimate emotional sacrifice, and so forth.
More than being a nostalgic experience, the film bridges the narrative gap between Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Doomsday. It has additional sequences that connect to the upcoming MCU film, which is set for a December 18 release in theaters worldwide.
