Actor Sandra Huller, most recently seen opposite Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary, is set to star as the late acclaimed German writer and artist Wolfgang Herrndorf in Maria Schrader's Work and Structure.

Huller had also won acclaim for Fatherland, Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest. Interestingly, this is not the first time Huller is playing a male. In fact she was recently seen starring as a woman disguised as a man in the German film Rose, directed by Markus Schleinzer.

The film is expected to be based on Herrndorf's autobiography Work and Structure (Arbeit und Struktur in German), which he began writing after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in 2010. Speaking about the film, Schrader described the book as a 'solitary and intimate record of what it means to be alive'.

Produced by Komplizen Film, Studiocanal, Haut et Court and ZDF, the film is expected to tell the story of an artist who is confronting the certainty of his own death with extraordinary honesty, imagination and wit. The film is set to explore a deeply human story about friendship, creativity, love and mortality.
