On Wednesday, JioHostar announced that Lee Cronin's The Mummy will arrive on the streamer on September 17, Thursday. Announcing the digital premiere date, the streamer wrote, "The dead don't always rest in peace." The film is also set to have dubs in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil on JioHotstar.
Director Lee Cronin's film, billed as a twisted and audacious retelling of The Mummy, released theatrically on April 17 in India. The film earned mostly negative reviews from critics. However, according to reports, the film, which is made on a budget of $22 million, has grossed more than $65 million at the global box office. Thanks to its modest budget, it is regarded as a profitable venture.
In Lee Cronin's retelling of The Mummy, a journalist's daughter goes missing in the desert while leaving little evidence or clues behind. However, when she comes back after an eight-year break, it brings shock to her broken family. Instead of a pleasant reunion, her comeback from the long hiatus becomes a nightmare for the family as she begins to turn into something terrifying.
Lee Cronin's The Mummy stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Natalie Grace, Veronica Falcon, and May Calamawy in important roles. The cast includes Shylo Molina, Billie Roy, Hayat Kamille, and May Elghety. James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville have produced the film, with Michael Clear, Macdara Kelleher, Judson Scott, and Cronin himself serving as executive producers.
On the technical front, the film has cinematographer Dave Garbett, editor Bryan Shaw, composer Stephen McKeon, production designer Nick Bassett, costume designer Joanna Eatwell, and casting directors Terri Taylor and Sarah Domeier Lindo.
