The Sanderson sisters are poised to make a return as Hocus Pocus 3 is in the works from Disney Live Action Studios. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the three sisters.
The first film, which was released in 1993, is set on a Halloween Night when three 17th-century witches — Winnie (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimy) — get resurrected after hundreds of years. The trio gets into the town in a bid to steal the life essence from the children to enjoy eternal life. Fast-forward to 2022, the second film follows events 29 years after lighting the black flame candle that resulted in the three witches coming back to life. Now three high school students embark on a mission to throw a spanner at the new menace the witches are looking to commit in the town before dawn on All Hallows' Eve.
The third part was announced in 2023 by Sean Bailey, former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. But the project did not proceed after Bailey's exit from the company in 2024, before its revival now.
The first film was directed by Kenny Ortega and the second by Anne Fletcher. With the sequel getting a roaring reception upon its direct-to-streaming on Disney+, there are reports that the makers are planning a theatrical release for the third installment. However, there is no clarification on the same yet.
