Starring Ryan Gosling, the film tells the story of a teacher with much knowledge of microbiology who is tasked with a mission to solve a mysterious phenomenon that causes the sun to die out. When the astronaut wakes up in a different galaxy, he has little memory of who he is and what happened to his sace ship's crew. However, his memory starts to come back to him gradually, and he soon befriends an alien named Rocky (James Ortiz) that helps him with the mission.
Project Hail Mary is based on a novel of the same name by Andy Weir. The film has grossed 20.79 crore over the first six days of its release in India, according to data from Sacnilk.
It had a slightly delayed release in India than what was originally planned reportedly because of competition from Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Initially, there were not enough IMAX screens reserved for the film, but following a campaign from fans, PVR Inox released it in more IMAX screens.
Fans and critics have been praising the film for its epic making, message about brotherhood and peace at a time when nations around the world are at loggerheads with each other, and performances, led by Ryan Gosling. Project Hail Mary is proof that intelligence and a collective response to a global problem with a focussed goal can help save humanity even when the stakes are high.
Besides Gosling and Ortiz, the film stars Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub, and Priya Kansara, among others.
