Recently, Warner Bros dropped the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated series adaptation of the Harry Potter saga, and it has hit a historic number of views. The teaser for showrunner Francesca Gardiner's Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone amassed over 277 million organic views on all platforms combined in its first 48 hours. This makes it the most-viewed trailer in the history of both HBO and HBO Max, hinting at the massive global appeal of this new adaptation of JK Rowling’s book series.
Reportedly, the series' makers aim to dedicate one season to each of Rowling's novels. The debut season focuses on the events of The Sorcerer’s Stone and features fresh cast members for the roles, which are once defined by Daniel Radcliffe and his peers.
The teaser has a poignant exchange between a young Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin) and the half-giant Hagrid, played by Nick Frost. “I’ve always wanted to know about my parents,” Potter tells Hagrid. In response, Hagrid says, “Your parents were the kindest, bravest people I have ever met. They were funny and clever and they stood up for what they believed was right. The next time I see you will be at Hogwarts.”
This teaser also previews Harry’s first encounters with future best friends Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) and Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton). It offers glimpses of iconic moments such as the Sorting Hat ceremony, Herbology lessons, and so forth.
The official plotline reads, "There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia (Bel Powley) always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past."
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone also stars Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
With episodes from director Mark Mylod of Game of Thrones fame, the series is set for a Christmas release.
