Ryan Gosling's space saga Project Hail Mary is finally out in theatres in India about a week after its release elsewhere in the world. However, the film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is not running in enough IMAX screens across the country, allegedly because of the dominance of the IMAX release of Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Naturally, netizens are not happy with the shortage of IMAX theatres for the film, starring Ryan Gosling in the lead role. An X post from PVR Cinemas, announcing the release of the movie in its centres, elicited many frustrated reactions from film buffs over the lack of the big screen experience for it.

An adaptation of Andy Weir's novel of the same name, the film tells the story of an astronaut (Gosling) trying to solve a mysterious puzzle that makes the sun die out. His lone companion in the mission is an alien named Rocky, voiced by James Ortiz. The movie also stars Sandra Huller, Liz Kingsman, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Priya Kansara.

Early reviews for Project Hail Mary have been overwhelmingly positive, with many critics calling it one of the best science-fiction epics of recent times featuring Gosling's career-best performance. Hrithik Roshan, who serves as the film's presenter in India, called it "the big screen experience of the year". Unfortunately, however, only a few locations in the country have IMAX screens playing the film, based on Andy Weir's novel, and netizens are understandably furious about it.

Recently, netizens expressed similar frustration over the lack of IMAX screens for Interstellar's re-release due to the dominance of director Sukumar's Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, at the time.
