Actor Chuck Norris, known for his roles in action films of the 1970s and beyond, has passed away. Norris was aged 86 at the time of death. The actor's family announced the news through social media earlier today.
In their statement, the family said that they want to not disclose the circumstances around Norris' death as it is a private matter. The statement further said, "To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family." It continued, "He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives."
Best known for his role in 1972's The Way of the Dragon, co-starring Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris is a champion in martial arts with black belts in judo, Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, Chun Kuk Do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Tang Soo Do.
The actor's prolific time in cinema came in the 1970s and 1980s with roles in Good Guys Wear Black, The Delta Force, Missing in Action, Good Guys Wear Black, The Octagon, Lone Wolf McQuade, Firewalker, and Code of Silence. Norris only had a few roles in comedies, unlike other popular action heroes such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Willis.
When his movie stardom started waning, he transitioned to television, landing roles in Walker, Texas Ranger, which took inspiration from his own movie Lone Wolf McQuade. The actor came back after a long hiatus for The Expendables 2, co-starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and Jet Li, among other notable names. Even those who hardly know his filmography are familiar with him due to memes that link him to feats that seem too good to be true.
Norris' survivors include his second spouse Gena O’Kelley; sons Mike and Eric; daughters Danilee, Dina, and Dakota; and grandchildren.
