Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's film Project Hail Mary, featuring Ryan Gosling in the lead role, is getting plenty of positive appreciation after recent its world premiere in London. Directed by Lord and Miller from a Drew Goddard screenplay, based on Andy Weir's eponymous novel, the film's story follows a teacher-turned-astronaut who is tasked with determining how an entity or substance makes the sun die out. Humanity's continued existence on Earth depends on the reluctant astronaut and his skills.
According to the official X handle of the film, critics find Project Hail Mary a "hugely moving, wildly exciting, and absolutely beautiful" theatrical experience.
Even with nine days to go for its release in theatres outside India, the film already has a large number of positive reviews from critics. Some of the critics and film buffs regard Gosling's performance in the film as the best in his career.
If the positive opinion translates into concrete numbers at the box office, it would prove a comeback to form for Gosling after his last film, 2024's The Fall Guy, did not perform well enough at the box office. While The Fall Guy did not do too badly in the reviews department, reportedly, it grossed $181 million at the global box office, falling short of its production cost.
Besides Gosling, the film's cast also includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub, and Priya Kansara, among others. On the technical front, it has cinematography by Greig Fraser, music by Daniel Pemberton, and editing by Chris Dickens.
Project Hail Mary is set to release in India on March 26, Thursday. Sony Pictures India, the film's domestic distributor, announced the release date on March 06 after a bit of uncertainty over its India release.
