Pixar's latest animated film Hoppers has surprised audiences and fans with a massive $88 million in global box office revenue in its opening weekend.
After earning $42 million from the overseas markets and $46 million from the US, Hoppers has become Pixar's first original blockbuster in ten years, the last hit being 2017's Coco which earned over $800 million worldwide. If the trend continues, Hoppers will soon hit the $500 million mark.
As of now, the United Kingdom, Mexico, France and Germany are the leading markets in collections. With the film yet to release in China, Japan and Australia, its revenue is only expected to see monumental increase.
Directed by Daniel Chong, and written by Jesse Andrews from a story by Chong and Andrews, Hoppers follows Mabel Tanaka (Piper Curda), an animal enthusiast whose mind is implanted into a lifelike robotic beaver in order to interact with animals and prevent the destruction of their habitat, unintentionally sparking a revolt in the process.
Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm also headline the film. The star-studded voice cast also includes Meryl Streep, Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, Eduardo Franco, Melissa Villaseñor, Ego Nwodim, Vanessa Bayer, Sam Richardson, Aparna Nancherla, Nichole Sakura, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Steve Purcell, Karen Huie and Tom Law.
