Colleen Hoover explains why Tyriq Withers suited Reminders of Him role
Universal Pictures India, via Warner Bros Discovery, is bringing Vanessa Caswill's film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel Reminders of Him to the big screen on March 13, Friday. The film navigates grief, loss, and redemption, and it is anchored by a lead cast that includes Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, and Rudy Pankow. Motherhood serves as the central emotional element, driving the narrative and the characters through a delicate balance of internal turmoil and evolving bonds.
According to the makers, this Colleen Hoover adaptation captures moments of fleeting, unexpected beauty that come even amidst despair. When casting the pivotal role of Ledger, Hoover emphasised that the production team sought an actor who could project both quiet strength and emotional depth. Tyriq Withers landed the role after impressing the team with his range.
Hoover said, “The role required an actor capable of holding the audience’s empathy while carrying deep emotional complexity. Tyriq is doing so much with such restraint and warmth that it was immediately clear he was right for Ledger.”
For Withers, the performance is deeply personal. It allowed the actor to tap into his personal experiences and gain a more profound understanding of loss, love and healing. The actor also noted that Hoover’s presence on set helped enhance his performance as it provided him with a vital creative anchor. “Having Colleen there was incredible,” said Withers. “She is open and generous, and that gave me confidence. When the person who created the character tells you, ‘You are Ledger,’ it allows you to trust your instincts completely.”
Reminders of Him aims to translate Hoover’s literature into a sensitive cinematic experience. As the release date approaches, the film seeks to captivate both the Colleen Hoover faithful and newcomers through its raw exploration of forgiveness, love and redemption.
