Pixar has unveiled the fifth instalment in the Toy Story franchise to film press members. Early reactions to the film say that Toy Story 5 ranks up there with the best films in the franchise. Directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris, the film stars Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz lightyear, alongside a set of other returning cast members and new additions. One of the new actors to be added to the Toy Story 5 cast is talk show host Conan O'Brien.
Earlier this Friday, O'Brien took to X and shared a quirky take on how he signed on to star in the film. "When Pixar asked me to join the cast of Toy Story 5 I said “only if I can play a potty-training device called Smartypants.” The rest is history." Alluding to the positive response to the film after its initial screening, O'Brien added, "Congrats to the whole team and thanks for having me along."
Pixar's official logline for the film reads, "The toys are back and this time, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie (Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad (Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same?"
Toy Story 5 also stars John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Jeff Bergman as Mr Potato Head, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Anna Vocino as Mrs Potato Head, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Melissa Villasenor as Bonnie’s toy Karen Beverly, John Hopkins as Mr Pricklepants, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, Tony Hale as Forky, and Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl.
The film is slated for a June 19 release.
