YouTuber and actor-turned-director Curry Barker's horror film, Obsession, continues its successful run at the box office. According to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has earned a gross collection of 15.16 crore from theatres in India and a net collection of 12.75 crore. The tracker's data reveals that the film has earned 360 crore from theatres worldwide. However, there are reports contradicting the data from the aforementioned tracker regarding the Obsession box office collection worldwide. According to the other reports, the film has only minted around $200 million at the worldwide box office.
Despite the contradictory reports, one thing is sure: the film is a bona fide success, especially considering its reported budget of around $1 million. It is the highest-grossing film of distributor Focus Features.
For the uninitiated, the film tells the story of a youngster who uses a novelty toy to make a wish about his girlfriend come true, but it turns real with dire consequences. It stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, and Megan Lawless, among others.
In our Obsession review, Prashanth Vallavan called it "a modern, dark fairy tale for adults, especially for an age where human relationships have started mirroring our dopamine-addicted relationship with social media, where attention and constant validation seem to have replaced love and genuine connection."
Following the success of the horror film, Barker has announced that his next project, titled Anything But Ghosts, brings him back together with producer Blumhouse and distributor Focus Features.
