Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will not be donning his suit and returning for a standalone Wonder Man series again, as Disney+ has cancelled the series' renewal. While the second season was greenlit earlier in March, the renewal has now been revoked.

Like other live-action Marvel series on Disney+, including Hawkeye and WandaVision, Wonder Man, also starring Ben Kingsley, joins the list of one-season series that are either by design or due to cancellation. X-Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, Olivia Thirlby, Dan Donohue and Kameron J Meadows also star in Wonder Man.

Following the announcement on Thursday, Abdul-Mateen II penned a long note on the cancellation. "Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!) That’s life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favourite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all), and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day. So, thinking of you all today. I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS."

The series, which premiered with eight episodes in January 2026, opened to nearly 618 million minutes of viewing time in the first week, as per a Nielsen's streaming ratings report. However, shortly after, the series failed to stay in the top 10 original streaming shows. On the critical front, the show was received with acclaim, which even led to an Emmy nomination nod for Abdul-Mateen.

A law known as the Doorman Clause prohibits superpowered individuals from pursuing careers in Hollywood. Hoping to make it as an actor while keeping his abilities under wraps, Simon Williams forms an unexpected friendship with the washed-up Trevor Slattery in Wonder Man. Together, the two navigate the entertainment industry as Simon auditions for a remake of the in-universe superhero film Wonder Man.

Stella Meghie to direct episodes of Disney +'s Wonder Man

As of now, Loki and Daredevil: Born Again are the only two live-action series to have more than one season. Several other series like Ms Marvel, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Secret Invasion and Echo, among others, have not received renewals, with some of the storylines continuing in films.

When the renewal was announced, Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, co-creators of the series, were set to return. While the former directed several episodes, the latter was the showrunner. They also served as executive producers alongside Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz and Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation.
