Jumanji has officially broken out of its console, unleashing chaos into the real world. The first trailer for the franchise's third and final instalment, Jumanji: Open World, promises one last high-stakes adventure while paying tribute to the 1995 classic led by Robin Williams.
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan return as their iconic game avatars. This time, the characters are hilariously trapped in a "demo mode" in the real world, where dangerous jungle creatures have escaped from the game and are wreaking havoc.
To restore order, Alex Wolff and his friends realise they must re-enter the video game. But, as always, Jumanji has other plans. Alex's mother and brother are unexpectedly pulled into the game as well, taking on the avatars of Johnson and Hart, adding another layer of chaos to the adventure. The returning ensemble also includes Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, and Rhys Darby, while newcomers Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes join the cast.
The upcoming film Jumanji: Open World serves as the third instalment in the Jumanji reboot series. The first film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle released in 2017 after which a sequel Jumanji: The Next Level hit theatres in 2019. Jake Kasdan, who helmed the first two parts, is returning to direct the third part, which is slated for a release on Christmas day this year.
Produced by Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Kasdan, Jumanji 3 has a screenplay by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, who also wrote the earlier installments.
