Recently, we reported about the passing of actor Sam Neill, best known for his role in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. While reports suggested that the actor passed away because of age-related health complications, the specific reason for his death was not confirmed at the time. Now, it has been revealed that Neill died of pneumonia, the actor's agent Philip Grez confirmed in a recent conversation, as quoted by Variety.
"As Sam Neill's longtime rep, I spoke with his family and wish to clarify some details for his fans. Sam passed away from pneumonia. Prior to becoming sick, Sam had valiantly fought and beaten lymphoma through a new treatment called CAR-T therapy," said the agent in a recent statement, as cited by Variety.
Sam Neill's agent has also disclosed that the actor has four more films waiting to be released in the near future. "I'd like to thank those who were truly close to Sam for considering his privacy with the respect he earned and his loved ones need and deserve during this immeasurably difficult time," Philip Grez revealed.
Neill had a prolonged battle with cancer, although he was declared 'cancer-free' around the time of his passing. The actor was aged 78 years. Neill's family revealed the news of his passing with a statement shared on social media earlier this July. The statement read, "Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life. The loss was sudden and unexpected but was blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent's Private Hospital for their incredible care."
