Oscar winner Octavia Spencer might have a varied career, but like women in Hollywood before her, the actor shares her frustration about roles for women being boxed into a specific zone. Spencer will be seen next in the actioner, Ride or Die, which will premiere on Prime Video on July 15.

"I don't know why there is a presumption that women should disappear after a certain age. I mean, I want people with life experience around me to guide me," said Spencer, who added, "So I think this is an exciting project because we get to examine all of those tropes and do what we want and interpret them in the ways that we want. And I think we do it beautifully."

Her castmate Hannah Waddingham, supported Spencer's statement by saying, "There's this thing always that a woman is of a certain age. You don't hear men of a certain age. So we are here to punch that in the face."

The cast of Ride or Die also includes Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker and Sylvia Hoeks, among others.

While Coates developed the series for Prime Video, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed serves as a director on the series. Reed also serves as a producer along with Coates, Spencer, Waddingham, and Matt Miller.
