Earlier, we reported about how Bruce Willis' dementia made him forget the fact that he is a famous movie star. The other day, the actor's spouse Emma Heming Willis revealed that he has forgotten the very fact that he has dementia. Speaking to the podcast The Unexpected Journey, Emma Heming Willis said that she feels that the aforementioned situation with her husband is the version of normalcy common among dementia patients. She revealed that dementia patients have a condition known as anosognosia, characterised by the brain's inability to recognise what is going on with it. Also an actor and a businessperson, Heming Willis said that the aforementioned might be a form of denial by dementia patients. She expressed her sense of relief about how Willis has no clue about the gravity of his health condition.
The actor-businesswoman revealed that the Die Hard star's health condition is not Alzheimer’s but rather frontotemporal dementia, and that therefore, he recognises his family and very much has a presence of mind. "He has a way with connecting with me, our children, that might not be the same as you would connect with your loved one but it’s still very beautiful and meaningful. It’s just different. You just learn how to adapt," she said.
The Willis family revealed the Armageddon and The Last Boy Scout star's aphasia diagnosis a few years ago. In a statement at the time, they said, "While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis." Subsequently, he made a formal announcement of his retirement from acting.
The latest comments come not long after Heming Willis revealed that the actor cannot read, speak or walk because of a deterioration of his condition.
