Wildwood, the stop-motion animated film backed by Laika Studios, is all set to hit theatres on October 23. The release date has been announced as the studio partnered with Fathom Entertainment for the film's release.
Travis Knight, the CEO of Laika Studios, is the director of Wildwood, which has a script from Chris Butler based on the first book of Colin Meloy’s The Decemberists trilogy.
The film is set to revolve around a boy, Mac, who is taken by a murder of crows to the enchanted forest. To save her brother, Mac's sister, Prue McKeel, takes her classmate Curtis along into the enchanted forest. Prue, who thinks she's too old for fairy tales, ends up in the middle of one where she finds talking animals, roguish bandits and sinister beings with dark intentions.
The film stars Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits, and Richard E Grant, among others.
Laika Studios is known for making stop-motion animated films like Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline and Paranorman. The fantasy adventure film is set in the US town of Portland, Oregon. Travis Knight is also directing the film; he is known for making Kubo and the Two Strings and the live-action Bumblebee film.
Laika and Fathom previously collaborated on the rereleases of Coraline on its 15th anniversary and a remastered version of ParaNorman.
