Actor Madelyn Cline is in negotiations to join Glen Powell and Cristin Milioti in a new comedy film for Universal studios, set to be directed by Judd Apatow from a script written by him and Powell.
Scheduled to release in theatres on February 5, 2027, the yet-to-be-titled film will see Powell playing a country-western star whose career is rapidly falling apart. Cline is set to portray a pop star. While the team was reportedly looking at casting real-life stars, they were blown away by Cline's audition, thereby leading to her casting.
The upcoming film will be backed by Apatow through his Apatow Productions, Powell and Dan Cohen. Kevin Misher is also producing through his Misher Films.
Cline secured her breakout performance through the Netflix series Outer Banks. After four seasons, she will come back for the fifth which premieres this year. Last year, she starred in the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. Later, she played the lead alongside KJ Apa in Prime Video's romantic drama The Map That Leads to You. Up next, Cline will be starring opposite Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Day Drinker.
