Actor Joey King is in talks to star in Natasha Lyonne's upcoming film Bambo. If the rumours turn out to be true, she will be portaying the titular role of Sophie "Bambo" Braverman.
The story of Bambo will be centred on boxing promotor from Brooklyn, New York, who tries to make it big in the world of promoting, like Don King, the promoter of Muhammad Ali matches, like 'Rumble in the Jungle' and 'Thrilla and Manila'. In his tumultuous journey of victories and defeats, he has to take care of his daughter.
Bambo is the short form derived from Baby Rambo, the name given to Sophie by her father Gideon. The film is set to go on floors soon.
Lyonne will also be producing Bambo along with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, Max Ferguson, and Sarah Sarandos. Word Games and Animal Pictures are the banners backing the film.
King received Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice nominations for her performance as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in the true-crime drama The Act. Her other notable credits include Hulu’s We Were the Lucky Ones and Netflix’s A Family Affair. Up next, she will star alongside Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic 2.
Recently earning Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations for Peacock’s Poker Face, Lyonne revealed Bambo last month. Looking ahead, she is set to co-create and star in Sky’s retro-themed comedy Force & Majeure with Matt Berry. She is also attached to direct Uncanny Valley. Additionally, Lyonne will appear in the third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria and in Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun.
