In the wake of sexual abuse charges filed against Timothy Busfield, a Deadline report has now confirmed that his portions have been edited out from the Amazon MGM Studios rom-com You Deserve Each Other.
Last week, Busfield was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and child abuse. Allegedly, the case stems from incidents involving two minor boys on the set of The Cleaning Lady, for which he helmed several episodes during its run from 2022 to 2025 for four seasons.
Five days after an arrest warrant was issued, the 68-year-old Busfield turned himself in to the Albuquerque police on January 13. If found guilty, he faces the possibility of a decade in state prison. On January 14, he appeared briefly in court, and at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, he is currently being held without bond.
The news of his portions being cut out from the rom-com comes after his long-time agency, Innovative Artists, dropped him. He has maintained his innocence but has not entered a formal plea. This Tuesday, a pre-trial detention motion hearing is scheduled.
Actors Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are set to play the lead roles in You Deserve Each Other, based on Sarah Hogle's novel of the same name. The novel won a two-time Goodreads Choice Award nomination. Writers Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn are directing this film. The duo has revised the script written by Brett Haley and Marc Basch.
The rom-com is described as a lovers-turned-enemies-turned-lovers that follows Naomi and Nick, whose soon-to-be 'happily ever after' wedding is thrown off track as they both fall out of love. As their D-Day nears, both conspire together to call off the wedding, only to fall in love again.
Busfield was announced to be a part of an ensemble cast as Naomi's father, comprising Natalie Morales, Justin Long, Kyle MacLachlan, Ana Gasteyer, Hope Davis, Delaney Rowe, Lisa Gilroy and Alyssa Limperis. With production wrapped for the film, an official release date for the film is yet to be announced.
