

Paramount has scheduled the next instalment in the Paranormal Activity franchise for a May 21, 2027, release in theatres. Directed by Ian Tuason, the currently untitled horror film is set to open in theatres against Warner Bros’ animation comedy Bad Fairies. James Wan of Atomic Monster is producing the film alongside Jason Blum of Blumhouse. Atomic Monster also co-finances it alongside Paramount. The director behind the first film in the franchise, Oren Peli is also part of the production team under his Solana Films banner.
This sequel follows Paramount’s recent acquisition by Skydance Media. Reportedly, Skydance Media is attempting to expand the studio’s film slate with new projects.
The series began in 2007 with an initial budget of $15,000, according to reports. After acquiring the film, Paramount reportedly spent an additional $200,000 to produce a new climax before its 2009 theatrical debut. The franchise has reportedly earned more than $900 million from theatres worldwide.
The upcoming film serves as the eighth entry in the franchise after Paranormal Activity (2007), Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014), Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015), and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021).
