Despite being accessible through Netflix just for the streamer's subscription price, the final episode of Stranger Things 5 saw such a massive uptick in demand from viewers that the number of theatres for it had to be increased. The Stranger Things 5 finale was supposed to be shown in more than just 350 theatres in Canada and the US combined, but the demand increase meant that it jumped to over 620 theatres, according to Sacnilk data.
The industry tracker says that box office figures for the limited screenings of the final episode of Netflix's popular show are not available due to distribution complications associated with television series. Theatres charge reservation fees which are converted into vouchers, which result in a lack of ticket sales through a conventional online platform. Therefore, the actual gross theatrical earnings of Stranger Things 5 finale are not known.
However, as per trade estimates, there have been more than 1.5 million seat reservations for it, which potentially means a $25 to $30 million gross collection in a day and a half. Interestingly, James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash made around $24 million on December 31, 2025, and January 01, 2026, combined. Trade analysts argue that Netflix missed out on an opportunity to make way more money through a wider theatrical release of the popular show's final episode. On the contrary, viewership figures from Netflix paint a different picture, with the final season's second volume garnering 34.5 million views from December 22 to 28 last year. Earlier, the first volume amassed 59.6 million views.
