As popular Netflix show Stranger Things bows down after a decade, putting up its last show/episode on New Year's eve, fans have been reeling in with feelings of mixed emotions, while sharing their version of theories and endings from the season. Among the many viral ones, the one that gained maximum attention was that many episodes were clipped from its original runtime.
While actor Randy Havens, who portrays Mr Clarke in the show, had earlier debunked these claims, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have also dismissed these theories. Speaking to Variety in an extensive interview where they discussed details about the show, including many scenes from the finale, Ross Duffer remarked, "I don’t think there’s a single cut scene in the entire season," while being probed about the veracity of these claims.
For the unversed, hundreds of users took to social media to show "proof" from an unsourced Google document that scenes involving Will and Mike, Will and Eleven and others were cut from series to drastically alter the narrative trajectory. More than 300,000 people had also signed a Change.org petition demanding that scenes from the final season be released, with many sharing their disappointment on volume 1 and 2. The issue arose immediately after the release of Volume 2, which hit Netflix on Christmas eve.
"Someone sent it to us, yeah. Obviously, that's not a real thing," said Matt Duffer, adding that the show had grown to encompass "so much misinformation" following its popularity across the globe. "We would be here for hours trying to bat down the stuff that was not true. But at the end of the day, hopefully the work speaks for itself, and it is the show that Ross and I wanted to make," he noted, asserting that Netflix had not interfered with their creative process. "Netflix was, and has always been, incredible. I mean, there’s no interference or direction at all from them on us. They really trust us, and that’s been true from Season 1 on. It’s never changed, even though the show and the size of the audience have grown," he said.
Stranger Things season 5 saw the return of beloved characters played by Millie Bobby Brown (Millie Bobby Brown), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler), Amybeth McNulty (Vickie), Nell Fisher (Holly Wheeler), Jake Connelly (Derek Turnbow) and Linda Hamilton (Dr. Kay).
