

Warner Bros. dropped the official trailer of Mortal Kombat II starring Karl Urban on Wednesday. Directed by Simon McQuoid, the film marks the return of cast members like Lewis Tan (Cole Young) and Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Lin, Joe Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle, Josh Lawson, Martyn Ford, Tadanobu Asano, CJ Bloomfield, Sophia Xu, Ana Thu Nguyen, Chin Han, Damon Herriman, among others. The series is helmed by Simon McQuoid.
The second trailer starts with Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) sitting at a comic event table, as he sees the other celebrities around him getting surrounded by their fans while his table remains empty. The trailer continues with the tournament, where Cage is pulled back into the supernatural world.
The film franchise was created based on the video game, Mortal Kombat. The game centers around people from all realms getting selected to play in the combat, which is a cross dimensional fighting tournament.
The film is set to open for its theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures on May 8, 2026. It will be streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max) and will also be available on platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
On the work front, Karl Urban’s award-winning OTT series The Boys (2026) will be returning for its fifth season on Prime Video. The actor also starred in the recently released film, The Bluff (2026), alongside Priyanka Chopra.
