Jason Statham to portray himself in Jason Statham Stole My Bike
Fresh from his role in Shelter and with a lineup of projects at various stages of production, Jason Statham has found his next film. The actor is set to star as himself in Jason Statham Stole My Bike, an action-comedy from director David Leitch, known for Deadpool 2, Bullet Train and The Fall Guy. The project brings Statham back together with Leitch after their collaboration on 2019's Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.
Leitch is set to direct Jason Statham Stole My Bike from a screenplay by Alison Flierl, known for her work on series such as School Of Rock and BoJack Horseman.
Plot details about the project remain scant, but reports say that it will revolve around international action phenomenon Jason Statham himself. Reportedly, it stars Statham in a once-in-a-lifetime role.
Leitch and Kelly McCormick of 87 North are set to produce the film, alongside Statham himself under Punch Palace Productions and John Friedberg of Black Bear. Producers Ethan Erwin and Meredith Berg of the Beryllium Entertainment banner are also attached to the project.
It will bring Statham back to the comedy space after a recent string of action roles. He has already shown his comic chops in films with director Guy Ritchie, namely Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, as well as Spy.
Leitch's most recent film, The Fall Guy, pays tribute to the community of stunt doubles, in which he started his career, and has elements of action and comedy. Therefore, audiences can expect similar beats in his next project. It is expected to commence production in May.
Meanwhile, Statham is in production for Viva La Madness, which reunites him with Ritchie and producer Black Bear. The actor's upcoming projects also include The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to his 2024 film, and Mutiny.
