We had earlier reported that Mikey Madison and Lea Seydoux will headline a revisionistic and comedic take on novelist Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death. The latest casting update is that Franz Rogowski and Benedict Wong have been added to the film.

The film is directed by Charlie Polinger, who has previously made The Plague (2025). Published in 1842, Poe's story revolves around Prince Prospero and a group of nobles who retreat into the forest to escape the deadly plague that affects the countryside. In their escape into a fortified abbey, they host a masked ball as a distraction, where an unsettling presence disrupts the celebration. The prince and the nobles are forced to confront the reality that they escaped.

The upcoming film is produced by Julia Hammer and Erik Feig under the Picturestart banner, with Polinger, James Presson, and Lucy McKendrick serving as the executive producers.

Having starred in Marvel films Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wong featured in the hit mystery horror film Weapons. He was last seen in Rock Springs. He will also appear in The Dog Stars and Avengers: Doomsday.

Rogowski has Cliffhanger, The Way of the Wind, Wizards!, and Enemies in the pipeline.
