Earlier, we reported about Hero Fiennes Tiffin starring in the titular role as Sherlock Holmes in a series from director-executive producer Guy Ritchie that explores the origins of the world-famous detective. The other day, its streamer Prime Video released the trailer for Young Sherlock, with Matthew Parkhill as its creator, showrunner and executive producer.

The Young Sherlock trailer offers a glimpse into the series' complex plot, which sees Holmes meeting James Moriarty (Donal Finn), which contributes to him being led to a murder investigation in a way that puts his life and liberty in danger. "Sherlock's first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy, leading to an explosive showdown that alters the course of his life forever," reads an excerpt from the official synopsis. It further adds, "Unfolding in a vibrant Victorian England and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident."

The Gentlemen Series Review: Despite its flaws the show ends up being a Guy Ritchie extravaganza

Ritchie is known for his unconventional crime dramas such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, as well as the two Sherlock Holmes films, starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, among others. Besides serving as an executive producer on the series, he has also directed its first two episodes.

Set in the 1870s, the series stars Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth as well. Interestingly, Holmes' world-renowned sidekick, Dr John Watson, is not featured in the Young Sherlock trailer or in any other promotional materials for the series.

Motive Pictures has led the physical production process for the show. The makers describe Young Sherlock as "a cunning new series from Guy Ritchie," who is continuing his association with the web series space with it. Recently, the filmmaker served as an executive producer and director on MobLand, starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan, among others.

Meanwhile, the eight-episode-long series has been set to start streaming on Prime Video from March 04, Wednesday, onwards.
