Earlier this Thursday, the makers of Dexter: Resurrection season 2 revealed Brian Cox as the actor starring as notorious serial killer the New York Ripper in it. According to reports, Cox is set to play a series regular role in Dexter: Resurrection, which hails from executive producer and showrunner Clyde Phillips.
Michael C Hall is set to reprise his titular role from the first season and the previous instalments of the long-running franchise. In the final episode of the first season, Dexter Morgan discovers who the New York Ripper is after finding the folder of its antagonist Leon Prater, played by Peter Dinklage, with the words "Don Frampt, New York Ripper".
Reportedly, the upcoming season of the series will present a version of the ripper who is not active any longer, having found a way of taunting those who have endured his past murders. This is not Brian Cox's first time playing a serial killer in a mainstream project. The actor has already played serial killer Hannibal Lecter in director Manhunter's film Manhunter.
In Dexter: Resurrection season 1, Michael C Hall's character comes out of a comatose, hellbent on reuniting with his son Harrison (Jack Alcott). In the process of doing so, he assumes the identity of someone else and joins a cult of serial killers. The first season's cast also includes David Zayas, James Remar, Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, and Neil Patrick Harris, among others.
The makers are yet to reveal the plotline for the second season. Also featuring Michael C Hall himself as one of its executive producers, the series' second season is expected to release later this year.
