

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve are lost in a realm beyond imagination in the first trailer of Backrooms from A24. The over two-minute-long video starts with Ejiofor discovering a series of rooms while walking through a wall behind a furniture store. But his discovery leads to a far more dangerous pursuit as he eventually gets lost inside the never-ending rooms where every sinister reality seems possible. Worse, his therapist, played by Reinsve also follows him to face a similar fate.
The horror film is directed by Kane Parsons, a 20 year old debutant, and a YouTuber. It is based on the filmmaker’s viral YouTube found-footage horror series which debuted in 2022. Parsons directs the film which is written by Roberto Patino and Will Soodik. He is currently the youngest director to work on a film for A24.
The cast of Backrooms also includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia.
The film is produced by Shawn Levy, James Wan Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Chris Ferguson, Roberto Patino, and Michael Clear. Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, Oddfellows Pictures, 21 Laps Entertainment are backing the film along with A24.
Backrooms hits theatres on May 29.
