Filming for the much-awaited upcoming Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been paused for a week owing to Tom Holland's injury on set, but casting for the film continues. Actor Marvin Jones III is the latest to join the team to play the role of Tombstone, a key villain who is one of New York’s nastiest crime bosses.
Marvin's association with Spider-Man films continue as he earlier voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will work in the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Lonnie Lincoln aka Tombstone is a African-American albino who is created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk. A key villain who foils Spider-Man often, his special features include him having a near-indestructible skin.
Filming for Brand New Day resumes on September 29. Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Cretton is also known for directing Short Term 12, The Glass Castle, and Just Mercy.
As previously announced, Mark Ruffalo will return to for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Along with Ruffalo, Michael Mando, who was seen in an end credits scene for Spider-Man: Homecoming, will return as the villain Scorpion. Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher after Daredevil: Born Again. Bernthal will also portray The Punisher in a special presentation from Marvel. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also returning. The cast also includes newcomers to MCU such as Liza Colon-Zayas, known for The Bear, Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), and Tramell Tillman (Severance).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will begin on the heels of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casting a spell over the world, to make everyone forget Peter Parker, in order to protect his identity as Spider-Man. Spider-Man Brand New Day will release on July 31, 2026.
Jones, widely recognized for portraying the formidable villain Tobias Whale in Black Lightning (inspired by DC Comics), was most recently featured alongside Kerry Washington in Joe Carnahan’s Lionsgate film Shadow Force. His past work also includes roles in All American: Homecoming, The Equalizer, and Season 2 of Paramount’s Halo with Pablo Schreiber. Looking ahead, he is set to appear in Amazon’s Criminal with Emilia Clarke and Adria Arjona, as well as Jonás Cuarón’s independent feature Gringo Champion.
