The ensemble of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming action thriller Subversion just got bigger. Six actors have officially joined the cast: Damon Herriman (The Bondsman), Jimmy Gonzales (The Odyssey), Alex Meraz (Dark Winds), CJ Bloomfield (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Awdo Awdo, and Saffron Deacon (Seriously Red). Their character details are still being kept under wraps.
They join previously announced leads Chris Hemsworth, Lily James, and Michael Peña, along with Joe Cole, David Wenham, Robert John Burke, Simone Kessell, and Teresa Palmer.
The story centres on a former naval commander (Hemsworth), once considered a rising star, who finds himself blackmailed by a cartel-style organisation. Forced to captain a submarine carrying illicit cargo across international waters, he soon becomes the target of a relentless Coast Guard officer (James). The chase unfolds as a deadly game of cat-and-mouse filled with blockades, treacherous waters, and dangerous threats lurking both outside and within the vessel.
Subversion is being directed by Patrick Vollrath (7500) from a screenplay by Andrew Ferguson. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing, while executive producers include Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen for di Bonaventura Pictures, alongside E Bennett Walsh.
Best known for his roles as Dewey Crowe on the neo-western crime series Justified, Herriman was last seen in Together. Apart from The Odyssey, Gonzales also has Sell Out and Busboys coming up. Meraz is fresh off a role in the psychological thriller series, Dark Winds. With his recent turn in The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, Bloomfield will next be seen in R.U.R. Awdo Awdo has Pious Dawn—A Halo Fan Film, A Fallen Shadow, and Onwards in various stages of production. Lastly, child artist Deacon also has Zombie Plane in her kitty.
