The cast of the Netflix adaptation of The Boy in the Iron Box from authors Chuck Hogan and Guillermo Del Toro has been announced. Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand and Jaeden Martell are the leads in the film, backed by Del Toro and helmed by David Prior, known for The Empty Man (2020). Prior also worked with Del Toro on an episode of Cabinet of Curiosities.
The six-part novella series begins with a plane carrying a team of mercenaries crash landing on a remote snowy summit. In an attempt to seek shelter while evading wolves, they come across an abandoned fortress where the men find a hidden put with a box wrapped in chains. As fear takes on a terrifying new form, the true fight for survival begins.
While Friend will play Liev, the leader of the group, Durand is one of the mercenaries. Martell portrays the titular boy in the iron box.
David Prior has written his own script for the film which is also produced by Del Toro's longtime partner Miles Dale. He had also backed Frankenstein. The Boy in the Iron Box is set to start filming in October. Extended cast and a release date for the film are yet to be revealed.
Del Toro is awaiting the release of his adaptation of Frankenstein which hits the streamer on November 7 following a limited theatrical release on October 17. It stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster and is based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel.
