It is not uncommon for actors’ agents to recommend a name change for them for greater success. Many actors have disclosed that they have received this suggestion, such as One Battle After Another stars Benicio Del Toro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, Keanu Reeves is the latest to make a similar revelation. In a recent episode of the podcast New Heights, the John Wick star revealed that his manager once told him to use a different name instead of his original name for films. While the suggestion initially startled him, Reeves presented his manager with some alternatives, including ‘Chuck’ and ‘Templeton’. Eventually, the anthology titled The Magical World of Disney credited him as KC Reeves.
While Reeves did not reveal the reason why his manager recommended the name change for him, the alternative option had a short life. The actor revealed that he would forget to answer when people call out his name as KC Reeves in auditions. “Six months later, I was like, ‘I’m not doing this.’ That’s a Hollywood moment.”
Keanu Reeves stars in director Azis Ansari’s comedy film Good Fortune, which is now out in theatres. The film stars Reeves as an angel who interferes with the lives of an affluent venture capitalist, played by Seth Rogen, and a gig worker who struggles to make a living (Ansari himself).
